6 Random Things

Thanks, Nichole for tagging me! This one was a thinker. I wasn't sure for a while I'd even be able to think of 6 things! I really like my boring life!

1. I hate coffee. ALthough, there is this cold brew coffee from Arabica that isn't bitter. I can drink it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it! Everyone used to tell me that I'd start drinking coffee in college. When that didn't happen, people said for sure I'd start drinking it after I had kids. Nope! What I want to know is if it's an acquired taste, how do you acquire it?! I'll just stick to my tea (chai preferably). Downside - I'm not a morning person. Upside - I'm not addicted to caffeine!

2. I love reading about life in the 19th century. Right now, I'm reading the Little House on the Prairie series to my kids (Legoboy is the only one that sits still long enough to really enjoy it!). Sometimes I think I would have rather lived then - when life was hard but simple. Family and hard work were the center of life. But then again, some of the stuff I read makes me very GLAD that I live today!

3. I also got into genealogy pretty hard about 3 years ago. I don't spend as much time on it now, but I love to research ancestors. Maybe because I knew 4 of my great-grandparents before they died. What a blessing! I even have a 5 generation picture taken with my children! I took one trip to visit place my ancestors live and hope to do more in the future. It's amazing the perspective that skimming census records gives you. You see this snippet of families caught in time - Mom and Dad are about the ages of my husband and I (or younger!) and they have a few (or a lot of) little kids. And then you realize that one of those kids is your great-great grandfather (or something like that)! And then you realize how fleeting this life really is. Lists and lists of people that were here, had families and lived lives just like us, and now they're gone and hardly remembered if at all...

4. I love to bargain shop for kids clothes! There's something VERY satisfying about dressing my kids in really cute clothes that were dirt cheap! I love hand-me-downs, thrift shops, yard sales, but my absolute favorite is clearance sales! I often make my husband guess how much my kids' outfits cost after I dress them. I'm sure he gets sick of guessing, but it's so much fun to tell him the real price! Unless he guesses low... that takes the fun out of it!

5. I am a big advocate of natural birth (although I appreciate the modern tools we have when used apprpriately!). Nonetheless, I have had to have my labor induced with ALL 3 of my births! The funny thing is that I have lots and lots of contractions in the months leading up to my due dates, even get to 4 cm dilation, and then can't seem to go into labor on my own! In fact, with Woogie's birth, they were just so sure that breaking my water would be all I needed, but after that was done, my contractions completely stopped! I really tried this last time with Meatball not to be induced. As a childbirth instructor, I really want to have the experience of going into labor naturally!!! I put it off and off (wih the support of my midwife), until I was not doing well health-wise. And then he weighed 10 1/2 lbs.! I just want to know what it would take for me to actually go into labor on my own!

6. I always wanted 5 kids. Scott wanted 2. I think I'm winning! LOL!

I think I'm supposed to tag people now, but I don't know how to link anything to this blog. If anyone could explain that to me, I'd be very grateful! So I'll just name a few people that I think may still read my blog. I'll name people who are also still waiting the endless wait for their kids - Shari, Ute, and Dani. I'd love to hear more about you guys!
